Cheyenne Mountain State Park is making its rugged trails more accessible to all visitors with the addition of two new “Terrain Hopper” electric vehicles. These specialized vehicles, designed for those with physical limitations, can easily navigate various terrain, including dirt, gravel, and even steep inclines.

“We want everyone to experience the beauty of Cheyenne Mountain regardless of mobility challenges,” said Jason Hagan, Park Manager. “These Terrain Hoppers will open up trails that were previously off-limits to many of our guests.”

The $30,000 investment was made possible thanks to generous support from the Friends of Cheyenne Mountain State Park, Hoppers for Heroes, Partners in the Outdoors, the Mesara Family Foundation, and the Kern family. The wheeled design of these Terrain Hoppers provides additional clearance, ideal for the park’s rocky landscape. Riders can control the vehicles with traditional handlebars or a joystick, offering flexibility and ease of use.

Starting Memorial Day weekend, visitors can reserve a Terrain Hopper through the park’s online system. All Terrain Hopper rides will be guided by a dedicated park volunteer, and riders must have a companion present.

“This initiative reflects Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s commitment to inclusivity,” Hagan added. “We’re constantly exploring ways to ensure everyone can enjoy our incredible outdoor spaces.”

Cheyenne Mountain State Park is also pioneering the use of colorblindness-correcting Enchroma sunglasses, available for free checkout at the Visitor Center. These innovative glasses enable visitors with colorblindness to fully appreciate the park’s vibrant scenery.
