Colorado nonprofits and other organizations working to connect the state’s youth with the outdoors have a shot at significant funding. Applications are now open for the Colorado Outdoor Equity Grant Program (OEGP), offering a total of $3 million in grant awards this December.
This year, the application process has been revised to save applicants time. Instead of a general letter of interest, potential grantees will fill out a focused questionnaire directly on the OEGP website. Those who best match the program’s goals will be invited to submit a full application later this year.
The OEGP was founded to bridge the gap in access to outdoor experiences for underserved Coloradans. Since its inception, it has distributed over $5.5 million to projects focused on everything from environmental education to career-path exposure
“Every Colorado kid deserves the chance to explore our amazing state,” Governor Polis emphasized. “This program helps knock down barriers so everyone feels welcome and develops a sense of ownership of these spaces.”
The program welcomes applications from nonprofits, government agencies, schools, for-profits, and recognized tribes. Priority goes to proposals focused on traditionally excluded youth – including low-income communities, youth of color, LGBTQ+ youth, youth with disabilities, and members of Tribal Nations historically linked to Colorado. Grants cap at $100,000.
CPW Director Jeff Davis sees the program as dovetailing with his agency’s priorities: “We’re committed to making the outdoors accessible to all. These grants help expand that reach while furthering our goal of inspiring that crucial connection to nature in everyone.”
For those interested, a virtual Q&A session for potential applicants will be held on May 14th. Registration details are on the OEGP website. Applications close on June 4th.
