A major upgrade is coming to Sweitzer Lake State Park, promising a significant enhancement to the visitor experience. Beginning May 14, the south side day use area will undergo a comprehensive renovation, slated for completion within approximately 90 days.
Park Manager Scott Rist expressed excitement about the project, stating, ‘We’re bringing this area of the park into the 21st century. Once finished, it will be a substantial improvement that our visitors will truly appreciate.’
During construction, the south side day use area will be closed to the public. The project scope includes the renovation of existing shelters, construction of new bathroom facilities, and extensive landscaping enhancements.
Despite the temporary closure of the south side, the main recreational area and boat ramp will remain open for the season, ensuring visitors can continue to enjoy Sweitzer Lake’s natural beauty and recreational opportunities.
Sweitzer Lake State Park is renowned for its 137-surface acre reservoir, providing ample space for day-use recreation. Additionally, the park boasts exceptional bird watching opportunities, making it a favorite destination for avid bird enthusiasts.
While the temporary inconvenience of the south side closure is acknowledged, park officials are confident that the end result will be well worth the wait. The renovated day use area promises to elevate the park’s amenities and provide visitors with a more modern and enjoyable experience.
