Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission to Address Sweeping Regulations at August Meeting

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission (CPW) has announced a comprehensive agenda for its upcoming meeting on August 22-23, 2024, in Colorado Springs. The meeting will focus on a wide range of issues impacting wildlife management, outdoor recreation, and state park operations.

Key Regulatory Changes Proposed:

  • Timed Entry Reservations at Eldorado Canyon State Park: The commission will consider making the timed entry reservation system permanent at this popular park, aiming to manage overcrowding and enhance visitor experience.
  • New Hunting Regulations at Fishers Peak and Lone Mesa State Park: Proposed changes include updated hunting rules for Fishers Peak and a limited spring turkey hunting opportunity at Lone Mesa State Park.
  • Modified Fees and Passes: Several fee adjustments are on the table, including changes to the Aspen Leaf Lifetime pass program and an increased daily vehicle fee at Chatfield and State Forest State Parks.
  • Wildlife Rehabilitation License Distribution: A proposal to modify the timing of wildlife rehabilitation license distribution will be discussed.
  • License Fee Adjustments: The commission will consider adjusting license fees and license agent commission rates based on the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Consumer Price Index.
  • Commercial Use Regulations: Changes to commercial use regulations on state parks and wildlife areas are under consideration.
  • Annual Review of Fishing Regulations: A comprehensive review of fishing regulations, including season dates, bag limits, and licensing requirements, is on the agenda.
  • Turkey Hunting Regulations for 2025: The commission will discuss potential changes to turkey hunting regulations for the 2025 season.

The CPW encourages public participation and feedback on the proposed regulations. Written comments can be submitted via email to dnr_cpwcommission@state.co.us, with a deadline of August 8, 2024, for comments to be mailed to the commission before the meeting.
