Remington Fire Continues to Rage, Impacts Multiple Counties and States

UPDATE

The Remington Fire, sparked by lightning on August 22nd in Sheridan County, Wyoming, has rapidly intensified, now encompassing a vast 184,127 acres across multiple counties in Wyoming and Montana.

Currently at 0% containment, the fire is burning through short grass and timber, posing a threat to several communities and the Custer National Forest.The fire’s footprint extends into Sheridan County, Wyoming, and Powder River, Big Horn, and Rosebud Counties in Montana.

Additionally, populations in the southeastern portion of the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation and the communities of Quietus, Otter, and Birney are at risk.

A Southwest Area Complex Incident Management Team 5 has assumed control of firefighting operations. Efforts to contain the fire are ongoing, but challenges persist due to its large scale and the terrain involved.

Residents and visitors in the affected areas are advised to remain vigilant and adhere to any evacuation orders or safety precautions issued by local authorities.
