Pack Trail Fire Prompts “Set” Evacuation Alert for Upper Gros Ventre Residents

The Pack Trail Fire burning in the Shoshone National Forest near Dubois has triggered a “Set” evacuation alert for residents in the Upper Gros Ventre area. This alert, issued by Teton County Emergency Management on October 5th, 2024, signifies an increased risk to the area and urges residents to be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.

The fire, which was first reported on October 5th, is located southeast of Deer Creek Mountain and has been growing steadily due to dry conditions and strong winds. This fire has burned about 48,640 acres as of this articles publication, it is actively burning in the Upper Gros Ventre drainage above the Goosewing Road Junction.

The “Set” alert means that residents in the affected area should take immediate steps to prepare for a potential evacuation. This includes:

Gathering essential items:
Prepare a “go bag” with important documents, medications, and other necessities.

Making arrangements for pets and livestock: Ensure you have a plan for evacuating animals if necessary.

Staying informed: Monitor official channels like Teton County Emergency Management (www.tcincident.org) for updates and evacuation orders.

The alert also warns of potential hazards like reduced visibility due to smoke and the possibility of road closures. Residents with special needs or those requiring extra time to evacuate are encouraged to leave the area proactively.
