Colorado Springs, CO – The City of Colorado Springs, in collaboration with the Downtown Partnership, has announced the launch of the Tejon Street Revitalization Project. This ambitious initiative aims to enhance public safety, increase accessibility, and boost business activity along a two-block segment of Tejon Street, from Colorado Avenue to Kiowa Street.
The project, set to begin on March 24, 2025, will bring a host of improvements to the downtown area. Key features include wider sidewalks to accommodate pedestrians, including those using wheelchairs and mobility scooters, and expanded outdoor dining spaces for restaurants. The removal of the center lane, currently used by delivery trucks, will improve safety by relocating deliveries to new zones on side streets.
In addition to these changes, the project will preserve diagonal on-street parking and designate short-term parking areas for food delivery and ride-hail vehicles. Larger trees and expanded landscape areas will be planted to enhance aesthetics and provide increased shade. The project also includes opportunities for extra pedestrian lighting, public art, and seating.
The first phase of the project, from Colorado Avenue to Pikes Peak Avenue, is expected to be completed by late March 2025. The second phase, from Pikes Peak Avenue to Kiowa Street, will commence after the Fourth of July and is scheduled for completion by the end of September. The final phase, at the intersection of South Tejon Street and Pikes Peak Avenue, will start at the end of September and finish by early December.
During construction, northbound Tejon Street will be closed in phases, while southbound Tejon Street will remain open. Access to all businesses will be maintained throughout the project.
The Tejon Street Revitalization Project is part of a broader effort to meet the growing and changing needs of downtown Colorado Springs. With substantial funding from various sources, this project is poised to make Tejon Street a vibrant and accessible destination for residents and visitors alike.
