June 27, 2025 – Moffat County, CO — The Horse Draw Fire, first reported on June 26 near mile marker 25 of Highway 40, has grown to approximately 750.2 acres and remains 10% contained as of this afternoon. Fire officials confirm the blaze is actively burning primarily on BLM land, with a minor impact—about half an acre—on state-owned property.
Multiple agencies have responded, including MCSO Wildland Fire, BLM, U.S. Forest Service, and the Big Bear Hot Shots. These teams continue suppression efforts under challenging dry and windy conditions.
Highway 40 remains open, but the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office urges drivers to proceed cautiously and monitor the COtrip Traveler Information System for traffic updates to ensure firefighter safety.
Fire growth has been rapid—from just 2 acres at initial report to over 800 acres before being remapped at the current size. Fire perimeter maps remain preliminary and do not indicate structural losses; firefighters continue structural protection operations where needed.
More updates will be issued as conditions evolve and containment improves.
