Keystone, Colorado – A skier tragically lost their life following a high-speed crash at Keystone Resort on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred on the Haywood Trail, an intermediate run near the Mountain House base area, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the skier, a man from Colorado’s Front Range, was traveling at a high speed when he lost control, veered off the trail, and collided with a padded light pole. Keystone Ski Patrol responded immediately, providing advanced life-saving measures before transporting the skier to Keystone Medical Center. Despite their efforts, the skier was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities confirmed that the skier was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was the only individual involved. There is no evidence of foul play or intoxication, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The Summit County Coroner’s Office is conducting an investigation to determine the official cause of death and will release the skier’s identity at a later time.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss,” said Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons in a statement.
This marks another somber reminder of the risks associated with winter sports, even for experienced skiers. Keystone Resort has extended its condolences to the family and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.
