As winter approaches, Colorado Springs is ramping up its snow removal operations to ensure safe travel and minimal disruption during storms. The Streets Division, led by Operations Manager Clint Brown, has outlined a comprehensive plan involving up to 50 snowplows and de-icing trucks, depending on storm severity.

The city’s snow response is tiered by priority. Primary routes—such as major arterials, emergency corridors, and school access roads—receive immediate attention. Secondary streets follow once primary routes are cleared. Residential areas are typically serviced only during prolonged or severe snowfall.

Crews are on standby 24/7 during storm watches, with brine pre-treatment applied to roads when conditions allow. The city also maintains a live snowplow tracker online, allowing residents to monitor progress in real time.

Brown emphasized the importance of public cooperation: “Please give our drivers space, avoid parking on snow routes, and stay informed through city alerts.” The city encourages residents to prepare emergency kits and limit travel during active storms.
